Satchmo Summerfest: July 30 – Aug 2
In a city known for its musical contributions to the world, Louis Armstrong is king.
Easily the most revered New Orleans musician, an entire festival is dedicated to celebrating this jazz icon.
The Annual Satchmo SummerFest presented by French Quarter Festivals Inc. is a four-day celebration with live music, local cuisine and renowned speakers.
On the music front, you’ll hear it all from contemporary jazz to brass bands. Some local performers who’ve been known to grace the Satchmo SummerFest stages include Tim Laughlin, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Storyville Stompers, Rebirth Brass Band, Soul Rebels, Jeremy Davenport, Kermit Ruffins and others.
The music takes place on four different stages: Traditional Jazz Stage, Brass Band Stage, Contemporary Jazz Stage and Children’s Stage, where the kiddies can boogie to kid-friendly performances by their favorite performers.
Local New Orleans restaurants host dinner specials, plus the festival also puts on a “Red Beans and Ricely Yours” luncheon each year. Check the website for details about this year’s event.
French Quarter Festivals Inc. is a non-profit corporation that is supported by city administration.
